Acute
Malnutrition

The current analysis period coincides with the small lean period from April to May, between the two main harvests of Burundi’s crop seasons A and B. Thus, over the current analysis period (April-May 2022), 1.18 million people (10%) are classified as in Crisis (IPC Phase 3 or above), and 3.1 million (26% of the analysed population) are in Stress (IPC Phase 2).

With the upcoming harvest of major crop season B, from June to September 2022, the highly food insecure population (IPC Phase 3 or above) is likely to decrease.  Despite the impact of major shocks (Ukrainian crisis and fuel shortages), the population in IPC Phase 3 or above is expected to decrease to 646,000 people (5% of the total population), a decrease of nearly 50% from the current period.
