Approximately 4.2 million people (20 percent of the analysed population) are expected to experience high levels of acute food insecurity (IPC Phase 3 or above) between May and September 2024, including 56,000 people in IPC Phase 4 (Emergency) and 4.1 million people in IPC Phase 3 (Crisis). Most of the population in Phase 3 or above are not able to produce enough of their own food and are dependent on market purchases for their food needs.
The situation is expected to deteriorate during the projection period (October 2024 – March 2025) which coincides with the lean season. Nearly 5.7 million people (28 percent of the analysed population) are estimated to be in Phase 3 or above with 416,000 people expected to be in Phase 4.
