The IPC Acute Food Insecurity scale was introduced in Lebanon in 2022, hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture and jointly implemented by FAO and WFP. Since then, Lebanon has conducted national and subnational analyses covering Lebanese residents, Syrian refugees, and Palestine refugees, generating evidence to guide response planning and programming. The IPC governance structure in Lebanon is anchored in the National Technical Working Group (TWG), co-led by the Ministry of Agriculture, FAO, and WFP, with active participation from government bodies, UN agencies, NGOs, and other partners. The TWG coordinates IPC activities, reviews data, and ensures that the process aligns with national priorities.
Beyond the analyses, IPC work in Lebanon emphasizes capacity strengthening through training, technical backstopping, and regional knowledge exchange. Findings from the analyses have been widely used in key frameworks such as the Emergency Response Plan (ERP) and the Lebanon Crisis Response Plan (LCRP), helping to shape evidence-based decisions and prioritize responses. Looking ahead, efforts will focus on further institutionalizing the IPC, enhancing national ownership, and expanding its role in informing medium- and long-term food security programming.
