The IPC Acute Food Insecurity Classification (IPC Acute) was piloted in Bangladesh in 2012 and since then it has been used to assist the Government and partners in classifying acute food insecurity and for the development of strategic plans, response planning and fundraising.

At present, Bangladesh is moving towards the IPC consolidation phase, with the goal oriented towards quality assurance, best use of IPC products by decision makers, as well institutionalization and governance.

In July 2015, in order to support the country in its efforts to reach the above-mentioned goal, and in consultation with members of the Bangladesh IPC TWG, the IPC GSU carried out an external Quality Review of IPC in the country. The first stage of the Quality Review process was the technical desk review of the last IPC Acute analysis, which was carried out in September 2014. As a result, in July – August 2015, a Quality Review team from the IPC GSU conducted a technical review of the analysis worksheets and communication template produced by the Bangladesh IPC TWG in September 2014.

The Review report was submitted to the country IPC TWG in September 2015 for feedback and comments. The second stage of this process consisted of a high-level strategic mission to the country in October 2015, which was led by the IPC Global Programme Manager. The GSU team presented the three year IPC Global Strategic Programme to the Government, IPC partner agencies and donors. In addition, a feedback of the findings from the Quality Review was communicated to the TWGs. The Mission concluded with identifying priority areas for the country IPC strategy in terms of institutionalization, sustainability of IPC capacity building and IPC technical support plan.
