IPC advancements in Swaziland - 2nd IPC Acute Food Insecurity Exercise

The Swaziland Vulnerability Assessment Committee (SwaziVAC) organized and hosted the second IPC Level 1 Training and IPC Acute Food Insecurity Analysis exercises both in August 2015, in Manzini, Swaziland. The objective of these activities is two-fold 1) To train IPC Practitioners on food insecurity situation and 2) To access the food insecurity situation in Swaziland.

In attendance were IPC TWG Members from various stakeholder organizations and Government Ministries including; the Swaziland National Nutrition Council; Swaziland Red Cross Society, Central Statistics Office, World Vision Swaziland, Ministry of Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Unit, Save the children Swaziland, Ministry of Agriculture (Early Warning Unit), Swaziland Meteorological Services, and the World Food Programme in Swaziland.

The IPC Level 1 Training was immediately followed by the Acute Analysis. Mr. Ntela, who was the IPC Regional Coordinator at that time, explained that “the analysis was rigorous and it made use of recent datasets that were collected from: 1) The Crop and Food Supply Assessment Mission (CFSAM) held in Swaziland in May 2015 and 2) The Swaziland Annual Vulnerability Assessment exercise conducted in July 2015”. 

The SwaziVAC Ch air-Person in attendance iterated that the Permanent Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office is keen to see the outcome of the IPC exercise and would assist accordingly in getting the IPC products endorsed and timely disseminated in order to enable it become inputs into the decision making process in Swaziland.

A previous exercise was conduted on August 2014.
