Zambia

Despite decades of consistent economic growth, Zambia suffers from chronic food insecurity, undernutrition and chronic poverty. In 2017, the Zambia Vulnerability Assessment Committee (ZVAC), which is mandated to report on food insecurity, vulnerability and hazards, requested the IPC Global Support Unit to field a mission to raise awareness of key food security stakeholders on the utility of the IPC. The main thrust of this IPC awareness-raising mission was to sensitize high-level decision makers and technical officers on the purpose of the IPC framework, approach and value-added of the IPC for decision-making.

During the awareness-raising mission, quite a few organizations indicated readiness to support IPC activities in the country.

The country has since requested for IPC Acute and Chronic Food Insecurity training and analysis to be conducted in 2018. A technical mission has been planned for this year to understand the specific data needs of the proposed IPC analyses.
