HAITI: Record displacement and insecurity deepen food crisis

Haiti remains gripped by a deepening food crisis, with over 5.94 million people (53 percent of the analysed population) experiencing IPC Phase 3 or above (Crisis or worse) between September 2026 and February 2027, including 1.8 million people in Emergency (IPC Phase 4). This means that about one in every two people cannot consistently access sufficient food or has to implement emergency livelihood coping strategies to get access to food.

Escalating insecurity remains the primary driver, disrupting livelihoods, agricultural production and market functioning, while record displacement (1.49 million people), high inflation and rising transport costs continuing to erode purchasing power and access to food. El Niño-related climate shocks are further affecting agricultural production, while humanitarian assistance remains insufficient to meet growing needs.

Food insecurity is projected to worsen during March–June 2027, with 6.35 million people (57 percent of the analysed population) expected to face Phase 3 or above outcomes, including nearly 2 million people in Phase 4.
