The IPC Alert is a concise, standalone report that highlights key events and data from IPC partners and other sources to draw global attention to unfolding situations. By interpreting and contextualising complex information, it presents data in an accessible format, making it a crucial tool for informing and mobilising relevant stakeholders to take urgent action.

Ownership

The IPC Alert is produced by the IPC GSU based on available data and may also be jointly developed with the IPC TWG. The GSU oversees the development and finalization process, ensuring consistency and credibility, while the findings and content are jointly owned by the GSU and TWG.

Mandatory Content

Each FRC Alert includes the following key components:

  • Overview: A high-level summary of key findings, including current and projected food security and malnutrition trends (500 words).
  • Key Messages: Concise analysis of the primary factors driving the crisis (60 words per blurb). Recommended Actions: Actionable steps for response and mitigation.
  • Thematic Data: In-depth analysis of key drivers such as conflict, drought, and other factors influencing food insecurity and malnutrition.
  • Additional Data: Complementary data, including trends in Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) vs. Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and other relevant indicators.

Target Audience

The IPC Alert is designed to meet the needs of a diverse range of technical audiences, including:

  • Donors (Primary): International donors providing critical funding and resources for humanitarian efforts.
  • Media and Advocacy Groups (Primary): Organisations disseminating findings to raise public awareness.
  • Humanitarian Agencies: UN agencies, NGOs, and donors are involved in planning and implementing interventions.
  • Government Authorities: National and regional authorities.
  • Policy Makers: Officials tasked with resource allocation, strategic planning, and policy.

Branding and Format

The IPC Alert follows standardised branding to ensure consistency and credibility:

  • Size: Standard A3 format, designed for optimal printing and suitable for A2 wall pinning.
  • IPC Logo and Color Scheme: The report features the signature IPC Red (CMYK 7 99 91 1, RGB 220 32 47, Web Hex #dc202f) with the IPC logo strip at the top.
  • Partner Logos: Where the TWG is involved, the logos of all TWG partners in the analysis are displayed alphabetically on the last page.
  • Fonts: The primary and secondary font is Myriad Pro, a sans-serif typeface with a classic and fresh appearance that aligns with the IPC brand.
  • Pagination: The IPC Alert should be a minimum of one or three pages.

Dissemination

IPC Alerts are distributed through multiple channels to maximise reach and impact, including:

  • The IPC website
  • Email blasts targeting key stakeholders, especially for the Top Ten Crises
  • Social media platforms such as X (formerly Twitter) and LinkedIn

This multi-channel dissemination strategy ensures that AFI Reports are accessible to diverse audiences, including policymakers, humanitarian organisations, and the public.
