The food security outcomes resulting from the 2008 long rains contrasted sharply, across and within livelihoods. It is estimated that about 1.38 million people in rural areas are highly food insecure and will not be able to meet their minimum food requirements in the coming six months, if external support is not granted. The worst affected areas are situated in identified locations in the pastoral livelihoods of Turkana.
