New! - Post Deyr ’09/10 Assessment Analysis
The Food Security and Nutrition Analysis Unit (FSNAU) and FEWSNET gave a presentation on the Post Deyr ’09/10 Assessment Analysis during a Special SSS FSEDSC Meeting held on January 29th 2010. A final IPC analysis (and a comparison with the previous IPC map) integrates all of the sectoral data/analysis into an overall assessment of the current situation.

IPC Training of Trainers (Tot) Course
from 23 to 27 November 2009

The Regional Food Security and Nutrition Working Group (FSNWG)organized an IPC Training of Trainers (ToT) Course with the main objective of forming country level IPC trainers able to strengthen national capacities in IPC analysis through dedicated training exercises. The training event were opened to participants from Burundi, DRC, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

Save the Children just released the report on “Hungry for Change: An eight-step, costed plan of action to tackle global child hunger” which makes a compelling case for greater political leadership to put an end to needless child suffering and death, and proposes a concrete action plan to reduce undernutrition. IPC is mentioned as an innovative approach for increasing the likelihood of early and preventive action as it provides relevant, accountable and timely information and analysis to decision makers.

The study provides guidance to IPC practitioners on the significance and use of nutrition and mortality indicators for the classification of different food security phases. It also provides a very rich basis for further work, including in strengthening linkages between food security and nutrition analysis and in revisiting the definition and interpretation of the reference levels of various indicators for the classification of the depth of food insecurity.

Updated! - The 2nd IPC Pilot in Tajikistan

Following the first IPC pilot conducted in Tajikistan in June 2007 by WFP, the purpose of this second pilot was twofold: i) to update the IPC situation analysis map and ii) in turn fine-tune the food security monitoring system with the updated IPC analysis. Technical support from the IPC global level was provided to this exercise through a support mission led by EC-JRC and WFP Focal Points.
