IPC and the Permanent Interstates Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel (CILSS) co-organized a workshop in Lome, Togo, from September 21st to the 22nd. The workshop consisted of panel presentations and discussions on the benefit of CH and IPC’s use in early warning, gaining knowledge in the programming, informing response and identifying how CH and IPC can better address decision maker’s needs to improve food security and nutrition in Western Africa. The workshop highlighted the progress and achievements for the CILSS CH and IPC Global partnerships, the implementation and achievements of the CH-IPC Acute Food Security Classification and the upcoming application of the IPC Chronic Food Insecurity analysis in Liberia and Niger. In addition, the workshop was an opportunity to review the recent collaboration between CILSS and the Global Support Unit for the implementation of CH-IPC Acute Malnutrition.  

In East & Central Africa, the Inter-governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) organized a Regional Workshop from October 11 to 14th in Naivasha, Kenya to focus on the IPC Strategic Engagement, Institutionalization and Work planning. The workshop targeted technical and strategic middle-level decision makers, who form part of the national IPC TWG comprising of the IPC TWG Chair, a member from the Ministry of Health (MoH), other relevant active government institution and development partners (WFP, FAO, UNICEF, FEWS NET). The objective of this workshop was to finalize and enhance the technical working group, further develop the IPC institutionalization and governance with IGAD and establish a concise food security analysis to present as a region.
