IPC GSU Real-time Quality Review in Central African Republic

The IPC TWG in Central African Republic (CAR) conducted the 10th IPC acute analysis in April 2015, which was followed by a real time quality review led by the IPC GSU.

The need for a real time quality review was identified by the IPC GSU based on information received that the analysis classified one prefecture as well as five sub-prefectures in phase 4.  The phase 4 classification implies Famine/Catastrophe if humanitarian assistance is removed, which reflects an alarming situation. Given the implications of such classification, and the request for more evidence on the classification of the specific areas by decisions makers at country level, the IPC GSU and IPC TWG in CAR agreed to conduct a real time IPC Quality Review of this analysis to support the validation of the the findings.

Based on recommendations from the Quality Review team, the IPC TWG in CAR, with support from the IPC GSU Regional Coordinator for ECA revised the analysis worksheets; and, in June 2015, the National IPC TWG and food security cluster coordinator presented the revised results to food security cluster members. These results were as inputs to project proposals for humanitarian and Government donors.
