IPC in Latin & CaribbeanSince 2010, the IPC approach has been presented to stakeholders in several countries of the Central American region through a number of informative sessions and meetings. The roll-out of the IPC in Central America is part of a global process facilitated by the IPC Global Steering Committee and the IPC Global Support Unit and is motivated by the commitment to:
In Honduras, during May 2010, the WFP provided training on IPC version 1.1 to a number of participants from different organizations, including the Government, and led an IPC pilot analysis at the national level. After this exercise, all participating stakeholders agreed on the relevance that IPC for improved decision making. Consensus was reached among stakeholders on the need for further trial of the IPC protocol through pilot analyses at department or municipality level. In the course of 2012, IPC version 2.0 is being piloted in four countries (Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala) at sub-national level. Currently, participating countries in Central America fall under two IPC stages of implementation, specifically:
