In December 2015, the 11th cycle of IPC analysis concluded that 1,787,560 people were in humanitarian phases (phase 3 & 4 IPC). An update of the last IPC Analysis was conducted in August 2016 and covers the period from August to December 2016.
According to the August 2016 IPC update on the Central African Republic (CAR), 2,008,856 people are in Crisis and Emergency (IPC phase 3 & 4 IPC), corresponding to 40% of the total population and including 1,879,827 people in rural areas, 37% of the rural population and 129 028 people in Bangui or 15% of the population of Bangui.
The Analysis of the month of August 2016 consists in an update of the one carried out in December 2015. However, due to a lack of quantitative or representative data at the prefecture level, it attempted to build on the available data, collected on a few indicators. The data on the evolution of livelihoods and food consumption from EFSA 2015 have been cross-referenced with other information to evaluate the evolution of the situation until August 2016.
Two situations characterize this IPC analysis: the factors favorable to food stability between January and August 2016 and the deteriorating factors of food security. The calculation of population in a humanitarian situation (phases 3 & 4 CPI) is based on the trend (of the consumption scores of RRM conducted from January to August and EFSA of December 2015) applied to populations in the IPC phase of December 2015. Data on humanitarian interventions have been taken into account for the update of analysis. Due to insufficient data, the overall confidence level of the analysis is minimal except for Ouaka and Vakaga.
