From June to December 2007, the IPC was piloted in Tajikistan by WFP and the Tajikistan Food Coordination Forum. An IPC Technical Working Group - made up of experts from the agencies participating in the Food Coordination Forum - was set up for this purpose. Members of the forum include: the Tajikistan Ministry of Economics, FAO, UNICEF, WFP, Oxfam, Save the Children, Agha Khan Foundation, Mission East and Action Against Hunger.
The main challenge in the 2007 Tajikistan exercise was that available food security information was limited and outdated. In addition, all areas in the country were classified as being in phase 2. To refine the classification, phase 2 of the IPC was thus divided into three sub-phases according to levels of vulnerability (low, medium and high).
As of November 2008, the Tajikistan Food Coordination Forum has been considering whether it will continue the IPC experience and produce IPC maps on a regular basis – thus taking advantage of a recently established quarterly food security monitoring system.
